Specify your own URL shorting service (uservoice - jqueryhowto)

  1. Would be great to be able to define your own shortening service. For example to track clicks using ow.ly URL shortening service.

    That would help me to track clicks to the url.

    For example:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    tweetmeme_url_short = 'ow.ly';
    </script>
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://tweetmeme.com/i/scripts/button.js"></script>

  2. Great idea, ow.ly's API is not available yet however. Tr.im is a great shortening service with analytics and it could be used today. I really hope this is planned because I am trying to make it work myself and its hard!

  3. Problem is - we would need to store the variants for each url - we could allow you to specify the short url yourself - but that would allow for spammers to do nasty things as well.

    We also need to get consistency so we can track across urls

  4. I'd like to use my own shortening url service (Twitter Friendly Links plugin for WordPress) is that possible?

  5. I think that budurl is better for analytics and it is protected from spammers. Just add it to the list of URL shortners available.
