I just installed the tweetmeme button on a wordpress blog site, and for some reason when I click the button and choose to tweet something, an error appears:
URL points to the wrong story
Any ideas on why this might be happening? I've tried searching this error message and so far have found no results.
If it helps, the site can be found at http://blog.thekbuzz.com
Thanks in advance!
Mike

Hi Mike,
I just clicked on your button and followed the URL that it created and it pointed me straight back to the article where I clicked on the button.
Either the issue you were seeing was a minor temporary glitch or we will need an example of a button within your site where you are seeing the issue.
Many thanks

Hi Sarah,
Thanks for following up - I looked into this a bit more. It might be browser related - I see different things in different browsers. Here's a link to the exact post that is having the issue: http://blog.thekbuzz.com/2009/10/watch-me-wednesday-what-would-you-like-to-see-on-your-small-business%E2%80%99s-facebook-fan-page.html
When I try it in Safari (latest, snow leopard) and click retweet in the popup window, the ajax loader spins for a few moments, then goes away and nothing really happens. When I try it in Firefox on windows, I get the error as posted above. Definitely still happening though.
I'm wondering what else I can do to help resolve it - let me know if there's anything I can do to help!Best,

Hi Mike,
Have you tried clearing the cached web pages and cookies on the browser that you are seeing this on? It might just resolve the issue. Or it might not if it's not something caching related. But it is worth a try.
If that doesn't work then it's something our side and I'll pass the information onto our developers to take a look into it.
Many thanks

im having the same issue here http://www.lancorepayment.co.uk/blog/why-analytics-is-an-essential-aid-in-improving-your-websites-roi and on several other pages any ideas

I think it happens when somebody submits a story before anybody clicks on the tweetmeme button, so it's already on the feed with whatever url they used (which can be different due to tracking, RSS parameters, etc...).

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm encountering the same problem. I've found that for some reason the shortened URL is adding a plus sign (+) to the end of the URL. It happens on multiple posts, regardless of which shortening service I try to use. I have Tweetmeme on several different blogs, but only http://lynneandchad.com seems to be having trouble.
Any help is appreciated!

Hi there,
Could you please enable the TweetMeme button on your site and then we can see the problem in action and find the source. Without this we are unable to detect or run the site through our checking utilities.
Many thanks

Same problem here http://t210.tumblr.com
Left the code in the site though, so you guys can take a look at it... (@sarah ?)Posted 2 years ago by T210 -
Just wondering whether going with another URL shorten service would solve this issue...?
Posted 2 years ago by T210 -
@T210
I just tried the bit.ly shortened URL myself and clicked through on it and it did go to the correct end point. Do you have a specific story where you are seeing this problem? I tried the first 5 posts on your site.
We have seen this issue a couple of times with bit.ly and I do wonder if it's a reindexing issue that happens on occasion when they archive items or something. Either way it's one of those annoyances. You could go with a different shortener, we have retwt.me which is TweetMeme's own one. You're more than welcome to use that. Also Ow.ly seems pretty stable too.
I hope that helps.
Many thanks

Thx for quick reply, Sarah.
Could also be a caching issue on client end. Anyway, will try one of the other shortners.
Many thanks.Posted 2 years ago by T210 -
Hi Sarah, sorry for the delay in getting back to you... Got a little busy with the holidays :)
Anyway, Tweetmeme is enabled on LynneAndChad.com, and I'm still having trouble :(
Thanks in advance for any ideas you have! :)

Hi,
I was having this exact same problem and thought I would share the solution that worked for me. Now, this may not solve everyone's issue with the wrong url error message, but just in case it helps one of you...
The problem & what I tried: I tried clearing cache, changed url shortener from bit.ly to retwt.me, and even deleted old revisions in database - but I was still getting the same error message. The shortened url was correct (if I copied and pasted into browser, the right post would show u) but the retweet would not go through because of the error message "URL points to the wrong story". So after analyzing this all day, I finally had an ah-ha moment...
The Solution: All of the posts where the retweet wasn't working had punctuation (namely quotes and apostrophes) in their slugs. So I made little changes (like changing you've to you-have) and voila! The retweet now works & no more "URL points to the wrong story"!!!
Hope this will help someone else!

I'm getting this error too. I just installed it and I'm not able to retweet any of the posts on the front page. Site is here: http://www.lasnark.com
Also, I'm not sure how to go about changing the URL shortener. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
