Problems with the popup's and loggin into Twitter

  1. We are having a very small number of users which are having problems with login into TweetMeme through Twitter.

Do you encounter the Login Failure page on TweetMeme when you are trying to login? If so then we are having authentication issues with you account and twitter, this is currently affecting a very tiny proportion of our users. We are looking into the problem but so far found nothing at our end. This has been solved for a number of users by just trying again in about an hour.

If you are having problems with the external button you may want to try login in and out of the TweetMeme website, or login and make sure your settings in my.tweetmeme.com are set correctly (you can get to it my clicking on your username in the top right of the page).

If you encounter the problem please could you report it in this forum. We need a bit of information to help us, including your Twitter username and the browser you are using.

  2. I don't know if I'm having exactly the problem you mention. When I go to my.tweetmeme.com, it either a) acts as if it is logging me in via twitter, then comes back to the login page; or, b) when I click the login to twitter button, nothing happens.

Also, when I click a retweet button on a website, I get the popup, then when I click the blue retweet button, I get "Authorization error. Please try again."

This has been happening for 2-3 days now.

  3. Today I visited the Tweetmeme website and logged in...and viola, I was able to login! Then Shazam, I was able to tweet via the popup, no authorization error anymore!

Not sure what I did or you did...

  4. Fantastic! :) I wonder what it was that was causing it! I'll still leave this open in case others have the issue still!

  5. I am getting this issue, I responded to this post already:
    http://help.tweetmeme.com/forum/topic/778

Basically, I've tried two machines, FF, Chrome and Safari.

used to work two days ago. Doesn't work on any site now that uses tweetmeme buttons.

    i've tried:
    http://www.digitaltrends.com/
    http://www.mashable.com/
    http://www.tweetmeme.com/

Clicking on the button does nothing.

If I view source, click on the api url and copy the resulting source, paste into a doc and save as html, then open in the browser, clicking on the resulting tweetmeme button does load the popup so that i can login to twitter.

It appears it has something to do with the api page loading in the iframe.

  6. Please log into twitter and go to settings/applications and revoke access to TweetMeme. This will then reset the authorization keys for retweeting content and you should be able to log in via Twitter Oauth next time you click on one of our buttons and it should all work again.

    Many thanks

  7. is this for my personal account or for the main account used for the site?

  8. Hi Sara,

I've revoked tweetmeme access from my personal account, and it still does not work.

Again, works if i copy/paste the code that the iframe is generating, as long as I save it to a separate html file that is not encapsulated inside an iframe.

  9. I, too, am experiencing this exact problem. I have upgraded to 1.8.1, cleared cookies, revoked access from my Twitter account, and tried to reconnect with my blog, but the Twitter dialog for TweetMeme never goes away after successful connection. Clicking on the Retweet button only brings up the same dialog.

My Twitter account indicates that I've authorized TweetMeme properly, so that's not it.

Something is rotten in the plugin, methinks.

  10. You need to be logged out of TweetMeme, then log into your Twitter account that you use for retweeting stuff. Go to the Settings/Connections and revoke access to TweetMeme. This will reset your OAuth access to our servers and next time you try to log in it will reset everything and you should find that everything is working as it used to.

We believe that the issue has now been resolved but there are some remenant cookies on people's browsers that have incorrect data within them. Many thanks

  11. Just signed up for Tweetmeme today with the hopes of using your Follow button. Unfortunately I can't seem to login. When I click the Sign In button it connected me to my Twitter account (I approved access), but then the box disappeared and I'm still not logged in. If I click the Sign In button again I get an error message saying it can't connect me to Twitter.

I've revoked access to Tweetmeme several times from Twitter, then tried to reauthenticate (By clicking on Sign In). Every time it does the same thing (see above).

Sigh...about to give up and move on.

  14. This morning I was able to retweet, now it tries to connect tweetmeme to twitter & says it cannot! Very hard to run a business through your blog when the plugins don't work.

  18. Hi Everyone,

Please clear your cookies and try again. It sounds like Twitter have been having some issues with their OAuth process over the last 24 hours. More details can be found on their site here:

    Many thanks

  19. I'm having the same problem, and this is one week later. Any updates? I tried clearing Safari's cache, but it didn't help.

  20. Clear your Cookies & cache. Go to Twitter/ Settings/ Applications and remove TweetMeme from the App;ications list. Log out of Twitter. Go to TweetMeme Log out of TweetMeme as well. Now click on a TweetMeme button and you'll be guided through the process of setting up Twitter OAuth for TweetMeme from scratch which should clear any issues.

    Many thanks
