Hash-Tag Support

  1. I'd like to specify some hash-tags to include in the default tweet titles for pages tweeted with the tweetmeme button. Specifically, everything on http://www.wonderhowto.com is a how-to, so I'd like to be able to add the "#howto" hash tag to the title of all tweetmeme originated tweets.

I read the post on the "tweetmeme-title" meta tag, but the caveat at the end of the post limiting the custom title to a subset of the page's title would prevent us from including custom hash-tags. Could an exception be made for hash-tags, or perhaps another meta tag or query string parameter could be added to the iframe to specify tags to be included?

    Cheers,

  2. Hi there,

Currently this behaviour is currently unsupported, as it would be an opportunity for spammers to add hash tags to tweets on unrelated topics therefore spamming those tags.

I would recommend that the best way of doing this is to add the hashtag in the title of the post, if this is an urgent requirement for you.

    Thanks

  3. Thanks for the quick response, Chris.

It's certainly not urgent. It would just be a nice feature. It seems that if spammers wanted to add unrelated hash-tags, they'd be free to do so directly through the twitter API (and as I'm sure you know, they do quite a bit). As such, I'm not sure how preventing this via tweetmeme really accomplishes anything in the way of spam blocking.

I understand it's not supported now, but please consider it as a possible value-add for the future.

  4. Hi Bryan,

I've added this as a user feature request and we will look into how this would be best achieved. Feel free to give us any guidelines on how you envisage this to work.

    Many thanks
    Sarah

ps please note with the updated button design users can now edit the text before tweeting so can re-word their tweets and include hashtags. But is this good enough?

  5. Thanks Sarah,

I love the update. Would still love to be able to include it as a prompt to our users to tag their tweets.

    Cheers,
